This project was completed at a small residential development located in Te Awamutu, South Waikato. We were approached by the homeowner (Dean) to retain and stabilise a steep cut on an existing slope, which was going to be only a few metres away from his future house. Dean wanted to make sure the solution would be aesthetically pleasing and increase the value of his property.
The involvement of Cirtex started in January 2018 when Dean, owner and property investor, contacted us to get advice for the construction of a retaining wall on his new development. Once the client decided on the system he wanted to use, Cirtex helped Dean find a certified Allan Block retaining wall installer and a consulting engineering firm with experience on segmental retaining walls (SRWs). We worked closely with the appointed engineers, GDC Consultants, providing them with project concept designs and suggestions regarding how to deal with the slope above the Allan Block retaining wall.
Alicon Limited was the contractor selected by the client to carry out the construction of the retaining wall. They proposed some interesting modifications, which avoided having the Allan Block retaining wall divided by a timber wall. The knowledge of Alicon and Cirtex was crucial in helping the engineers with their inspections and providing guidance on how to inspect a SRW. In spite of the weather, the construction of the retaining wall was smooth and finished on time. Paying a bit more for an Allan Block certified contractor is a guarantee for success and has left Dean a happy client with an amazing and well retained new property.
