Project Information
DuraForce® AS410 non-woven geotextile was used on this major infrastructure project at Auckland International Airport. Contractors Fulton Hogan were excavating for this high load pavement area and uncovered a peat swamp, complete with large partly rotten tree trunks. Geotech engineers from Beca called to the site judged that the swamp was too deep to be economically removed entirely and recommended that only the rotting trees be removed and a non-woven geotextile complying with TNZ F7 strength class C be laid over the swamp, followed by 500mm of hard fill.
DuraForce AS410 was chosen by the contractor and was available for immediate dispatch, allowing the contractor to continue with minimum disruption and maximise the advantage of the favourable weather.
These photos show the aggregate used, being a hard angular crushed rock. This demonstrates the excellent puncture resistance and strength of DuraForce in this application where the dual functions of separation and reinforcement were required.
