Project Information
The Avon River, Te Papa Ōtākaro, is being developed into an urban waterfront to provide a vibrant destination in the heart of Christchurch City.
The Canterbury Earthquake Memorial, He Whakamaumaharatanga o te Ru Whenua, is situated in the Watermark section of this development where people can spend the time to reflect, and honour those who lost their lives or were injured in the earthquakes.
Design
With a large number of established trees in this high profile development, concrete or heavy paved paths weren’t an option as they would damage the tree roots. SurePave was chosen by GHD to overcome this common problem, yet create a stable, permeable path able to withstand regular pedestrian and service vehicle traffic.
In addition to using SurePave in the project, Cirtex was able to assist with EnviroSieve turbidity curtains and a range of erosion and sediment control measures while removing the sediment build-up in improving the river’s health.
System
SurePave is a recycled plastic paving system that provides a structure beneath the surface that is designed to spread the load, minimising compaction and allowing surface water to permeate through.
Whether used for grass or gravel, SurePave will provide a lasting solution to a lot of issues that have been difficult to overcome.
