Cesspit Silt Protector and Fuel Stop
The Cesspit Silt Protector is a heavy permeable matt, and the Cesspit Full Stop is a heavy impermeable matt designed to prevent sediment, fuel and other liquids entering the cesspits.
Cesspit Silt Protector
The Cesspit Silt Protector is a durable, heavy-duty, permeable filtration system designed to provide effective, short-term protection of stormwater grates and stormwater systems from sediment ingress.
To help manage silt runoff, the Cesspit Silt Protector is simply placed over a stormwater system without the need for lifting the grate. The Cesspit Silt Protector consists of a heavy duty filter pad, wrapped in a filtration geotextile and doubled within a durable, UV protected stabilised outer fabric. Â A 100mm sand-filled SiltSock is attached to the rear edge to provide inlet protection. This rear sock is designed to have some clearance between the top of the inlet so water can still enter the grate during high flow conditions.
The Cesspit Silt Protector can also be used in conjunction with a SiltSock to increase the overall effectiveness. It is important to note that every possible attempt should be made to prevent sediment and sediment laden water from getting onto roads where it has the potential to enter stormwater systems.
Cesspit Fuel Stop
The Cesspit Fuel Stop is a durable, heavy-duty, impermeable liner designed for effective, short-term prevention of fuel and chemicals from entering stormwater grates and systems.
The Cesspit Fuel Stop is designed to quickly and effectively inhibit fuel and/or chemical entry into stormwater inlets. Placed directly over the stormwater grate, this heavy-duty, impermeable PVC sealed matting (add alternative technical description) has a 100mm, impermeable PVC wrapped sand-filled sock attached to the rear side to prevent chemical or fuel laden water from entering the stormwater system during high flow conditions.
To further redirect fuel and chemicals away from stormwater systems, additional containment socks may also be required. We always recommend the refuelling of vehicles or the transfer of chemicals to take place away from stormwater inlets, reducing their potential to enter. Whilst reducing the possibility of large volume contaminants entering stormwater systems, other protective measures may need to be considered for stormwater protection.
Frequently Asked Questions
How effective are they?
- While Cesspit Silt Protector and Fuel Stop won’t prevent 100% of contaminants from entering the stormwater system, both will greatly reduce the risk.
- Always do everything possible to stop dirt getting onto the roads and to avoid or redirect silt or fuel/chemicals away from stormwater drains.
- As with any sediment control device, it is important to ensure correct installation and consider additional silt socks.
How do I maintain these protectors
- Dry dirt and sludge should be removed from the road with brush and shovel as soon as possible.
- The Cesspit Protector can be lightly hosed to remove accumulated debris.
- What about Fuel Stop? How is this cleaned? It is impermeable so less cleaning required. Soap and water ultimately if covered in fuel.
How does Cesspit Silt Protector and Fuel Stop remain flat against the ground?
- Both contain a heavy-duty rubber pad that weigh the liner down, even in high flow conditions.
- It is advisable to position additional SiltSocks ‘upstream’ to prevent direct or heavy waterflow from forcing its way underneath the pads.
When should I use the Cesspit Fuel Stop?
- This is a temporary device deployed when the cesspit is at risk from spillages with refuelling etc, or if the cesspit is to be temporarily closed off.
- It is not necessarily associated with rainfall.
What’s the main difference between Cesspit Silt Protector and Fuel Stop?
- Cesspit Silt Protector is a filtration device. I traps silt while allowing water to pass through.
- Cesspit Fuel Stop is impermeable. It prevents water as well as fuel and chemicals from entering the stormwater drains.
What size are they?
Standard sizing is 600mm x 900mm but custom units can be made if required.
